What are the Rules and Laws in UAE Related to Organ Donation

In the United Arab Emirates (UAE), organ transplantation is governed by federal law and regulated by the Health Authority – Abu Dhabi (HAAD). According to HAAD, organ donation in the UAE is based on the principle of voluntary donation and is regulated by the UAE Federal Law No. (14) of 2016 Concerning Organ Transplantation.

Under this law, individuals over the age of 18 may choose to donate their organs after death, either by registering as organ donors or by indicating their desire to donate on their death certificate. Minors may also donate their organs with the consent of their legal guardians.

The law also establishes the UAE Organ Donation Committee, which is responsible for coordinating organ donation and transplantation activities in the UAE and ensuring that they are carried out in accordance with the law and international best practices.

Overall, the laws and regulations governing organ transplantation in the UAE aim to promote and facilitate voluntary organ donation, while also protecting the rights and interests of organ donors and recipients.
