Lawyers For Man Accused in Trump’s Florida Assassination Attempt Want More Time

Lawyers for Ryan Wesley Routh, the man accused of attempting to assassinate Donald Trump in Florida, are seeking additional time to prepare for his trial. Routh, a 58-year-old Hawaii resident, has been charged with attempting to assassinate a presidential candidate, assaulting a federal officer, and possessing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.

The trial was initially set for November 18, but due to the complexity of the case and the need for more time to review evidence, Routh’s lawyers have requested a delay. The trial has now been rescheduled for February 10, 2025.

Routh’s motives for the attempted assassination are still unclear, but investigators have discovered that he had been stalking Trump for over a month prior to the incident, with cellphone data placing him near Trump’s golf course and Mar-a-Lago residence in August and September.

The case has garnered significant attention, with President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris being briefed on the incident, and the White House releasing a statement condemning violence.
