Perez: 3 Revenue Bills Only Address Tax Hikes, Not Enforcement

Amendments to existing laws, as described in three of five revenue-generating bills that are before the Senate for action, only talks about increasing taxes, but is silent on enforcement, according to Mary Susan Perez, who is the Tinian resident head of the Department of Commerce.

In her testimony before the Senate Fiscal Affairs Committee at the Tinian Public Library last Friday, Perez asked how much of the funds that will be raised from the proposed tax increases will be earmarked for the department’s Division of Alcohol Beverage and Tobacco Control, which is tasked with prohibiting the sale of alcohol and tobacco to minors through retail establishments, restaurants and bars.
